MANUFACTURING PROCESS

Timex India manufactures castor wheel using manual and semi-automatic processes. Some of the latest technological advancements in the manufacturing of castor wheels and components are described below.

Hollow-bodied castor wheel:

Hollow-bodied castor wheels are manufactured by casting a pair of flanged wheel body halves. The process involves heating of outer half, while maintaining the inner half at a lower temperature, which are then placed into each other. These halves fit absolutely into each other, as the outer half shrinks on cooling, while the inner half expands on heating, which causes the flanges of the two halves to bond together. The outer surface of the assembled wheel body halves is then vulcanized with a tire, and bearings are then press-fitted into the inner surface of the assembled wheel body halves to complete the process.

Castor wheels with non continuous ribs:

In these castor wheels, a closed bore is made with a minimum of one, radially inward projecting, annular rib. This annular rib is adapted to locate in a circumferential groove in the spindle, and also each such rib is constricted to provide a gap for the passage of fluid between either sides of it, while the spindle is inserted into the bore.

Castor wheels for transportation vehicles:

These wheels consist of an axle assembly, a polyurethane tread, a hub, and an elastomeric filler, which is sandwiched between the hub and the polyurethane tread. The process employs a multi-stage injection molding process, in which the tread and core are prepared by injection molding, whilst the elastomeric infill is injection molded between them. A mechanical interlock is achieved directly between the tread and the elastomeric filler, whilst the hub and the filler are directly chemically bonded.

Detachable castor wheel assembly with a flange and bolt mechanism:

This system is used for mounting castor wheels to the underside of a body, which can be detached later. It has a mounting bracket, which can be used as an attachment with the structure, through transverse mounting slots formed in a parallel array. A castor plate with a mounted castor wheel is attached to the bracket by flange members, which function in co-ordination with the mounting slots of the bracket. Detachment of the castor plate from the bracket is prevented by using a mounting bolt. The mounting bracket forms a channel and can be extended through the entire dimension of the structure, which enables mounting of multiple castor wheels to the bracket.
